The CHI Hip Tip

Ricky Carmona | Photo: Cheryl Mann

Stand-up comedian Ricky Carmona will star in the fourth of the showcase series "Unlimited", designed to give Chicago Underground Comedy's strongest performers special 45 minute sets. Featuring Chad Briggs, Joe Fernandez and Carrie Callahan, with music by DJ Sadie Woods.

The theme of the show, in Carmona's words, is "Good Funkin' Times. If it was up to me I would get a time machine and go back to the Parliament Funkadelic Mothership Connection Tour. I would bring P-Funk back with me and the show would start with P-Funk climbing out of the stage and funk just being smacked in people's faces. It's a party and errrybody is invited."

9:30 p.m., TONIGHT, Beat Kitchen, 2100 W. Belmont, Chicago. FREE.

Don't miss the Red Eye feature on comics Deon Cole, Erica Watson, and Hannibal Buress, who are "redefining the term 'black comic.'" (via)

Yet another CHI expat on the ol' Letterman television program! How about it, Kumail Nanjiani, superstar in progress:

Halloween '09: The CHI Photo Wrap-Up

Chicago comedy Halloween festivities were in full force this year, with shows throughout the week and city celebrating all things costumed, candied, and curious.

Chicago Underground Comedy presented their annual free Halloween showcase, with performances by ten comics donning masks ranging from the ineffable Randy Watson, She-Hulk, an out-of-town demonologist, Vic Valentine, and a murderous taco.

The Edge Comedy Club celebrated on Halloween proper with their annual ZOMBEDY showcase, featuring undead comedians and survivors (for a limited time) roaming the stage, searching for laughs (and brains):

They likely would have anyway, Halloween or no!
