The stars came out for The 6th Annual ECNY Awards at Comix. The show was hosted by Jon Friedman and featured performances by Kurt Braunohler,

Pat Baer
, Sara Benincasa, Kumail Nanjiani, all of the nominees for Best Musical Act and a whole lot more. Keeping with tradition, Andrew WK (pictured above!) presented the Emerging Comic Award and challenged us all to keep up the good work and party hard.

--A standing room only crowd filled Comix, making it the largest audience in the history of The ECNY Awards. Last year's awards were held right at the bottom of the global economic meltdown and the room was probably 3/4's full. I think the crowd surge this year is proof of an economic renewal. IT'S OKAY TO LAUGH AGAIN.
-- Jon Friedman hinted to the production team the other day that Chelsea White's intro videos were going to LITERALLY melt our faces and I was kind of all, "Like that will ever happen!," and then when the lights went dark and the first video rolled--eyeballs everywhere bulged uncontrollably, gasps rippled across the room, and faces dripped to the floor. LOOKEE!
-- Matt Fried filled in for Ryan Seacrest; Matt worked the red carpet and chatted up the nominees, presenters, and various street people.
-- Alex Goldberg tells me, "After his blistering 2-minute set, Michael Musto spent over a half hour decompressing in the green room. When I thanked him for presenting and telling him he was funny, he turned away and offered me his left hand, like a queen to her subject."
-- Carol Hartsell added, " Reggie Watts sat next to me and any time something or someone was introduced he turned to me and said, 'You're really going to like this.'
--When Best Male Stand-up winner, Hannibal Buress , was nowhere to be found, Eugene Mirman heroically trotted up to give an impromptu acceptance speech on his behalf.
-- EXPENSE REPORT: The fancy step and repeat outside cost over $500 and the trophies for Murderfist ripped a devastating hole through our budget.
-- INDUSTRY BIGWIGS were SPOTTED hailing from such places like Comedy Central, MTV, IFC, AMC, The Friars Club, CAA, and OTHERS.
