John Mayer Returns to the Microphone

NOTED ROCKER John Mayer is back on the stand up circuit. Audience member Chris Serico was enjoying a relaxing evening of laughter at the Comedy Cellar when Mayer came barrelling out out onto the stage. After the set was complete, Serico went home and wrote on his blog: 10 Things John Mayer Did During His January 5th Stand Up Set

1. Crashed the announced 11:30 p.m. lineup that included heavyweights and Comedy Cellar regulars Godfrey (who delivered possibly the funniest set I've ever seen in person), Dave Attell, Jim Norton and Sherrod Small.

2. Wore standard stand-up fare: dark sweater and jeans.

3. Admitted "Yeah, I'm the 'Daughters' guy," then proceeded to sing amusing alternate lyrics to the song with that distinctive Mayer lilt.

4. Worked very "blue." Asked men in the audience if they too had ever stayed home from school just to self-indulge, tallying three climaxes before the "Showcase Showdown."

How blue did Mayer really go in this dangerous Post-Michael Richards Era? Was Mayer funny? Read the rest of the review to find out.

But did you know Mr. Mayer calls himself Chewbacca? And is BFF's with Louis CK? This is very good.

As long as he stays away from music...

I'm all for his stand-up foray. His blog is pretty funny.

For all my cynicism about this foray, might I suggest he take a dip into the waters of being a comedy duo? I mean, I don't think he could ever be taken seriously as a stand-up comedian even if his act kills. But pair him up with someone else and maybe there's something there...

Like a Smothers Brothers act for the new generation.

The spirit of Dane Cook is so powerful, that it remained behind in La Cave du Jessica Simpson and Mayer became possessed thusly after his first spelunk, but alas, John's material is not a "Wonderland".
