Where Should These People Go For a Comedy Show?

An example of what laughing ladies look like.
A reader wrote in today looking for some advice:
Hi Nate, My Aunt Patty is coming to nyc this weekend and she just texted me to see if I knew of any good comedy shows that she+work friends could go to while she's here. Do you have any ideas I could share with her? She's older, late 40s, mom, etc. But she's fun! And kind of a partier... and in the big city without her kids so wants to have fun. Where does someone with this profile go to laugh in NYC?
Great question! Where do you think Aunt Patty should go?? Do you want Aunt Patty and her work friends at YOUR show? She sounds pretty chill.
They probably want to stick to the clubs where there's a greater chance they'll find polished, mainstream comedy. Nick Thune and Anthony Jeselnick are at Carolines. THey're younger and not so mainstream. (I think they're great but they may not.) It may not be the show for them. The Comic Strips line up has some good crowd pleasers. They'll probably at least like half the acts. John Heffron is at Gotham. He has broad appeal. The Cellar is probably most likely to offend them. Stand Up NY has a good lineup this weekend but not as many crowd pleasers. I'd say this weekend Gotham or the Strip (8 oclock) are their best bet.
