An emerging comic is someone on the cusp of making it as a professional comedian. They can have representation (i.e. a manager or an agent) and they can also be pitching shows, but once they have a full time job writing, or have development deals in the works or as a stand up once they are headlining major clubs they are no longer "emerging". --via ECNY Site
