A Benefit for Stephen Baldwin @ The Bell House - 6.2.10

By: Sara Laurence

Based off the mystifying Restore Stephen Baldwin campaign to bring Stephen Baldwin, the actor, back from financial ruin, hosts Jon Benjamin and Patrick Borelli gathered their friends at The Bell House to throw "A Benefit for Stephen Baldwin," a similar financial uplifting for a different Stephen Baldwin, one who raises tropical birds in Brooklyn and plays rhythm guitar in a Beatles tribute band. The show featured Eugene Mirman, Kristen Schaal, Jon Glaser, Kurt Braunohler, David Rees, Sam Seder and a video by Gabe Delahaye and Max Silvestri.  Material inspired by Stephen Baldwin (the actor) was strongly encouraged.

NOTES

--After showing a video from the Restore Stephen Baldwin site, Borelli and Benjamin then screened their favorite YouTube response, in which some intoxicated Long Island dude stresses the importance of opening a car window before throwing a bottle out of it. "See, there's just glass everywhere... just all over." This man came to life in the form of Jon Glaser, who spoke loudly/inaudibly and was just a general hilarious nuisance.

--Eugene Mirman read a parable of Job recast as Stephen Baldwin; Schaal performed the scene in Flash Dance where Jennifer Beals is dowsed with water in an aerobic frenzy; Sam Seder performed the duality of Stephen Baldwin, one half the Christian, the other the actor of such hits as Threesome and Biodome, wearing a shirt ala Victor Victoria; Kurt Braunohler described "Alec Ballswin" the imaginary impersonator of Stephen's more famous brother who makes a cut-out of Alec's face and dips his balls in pudding and dangles them through the cut-out mouth, kind of like the old "clutch cargo" Conan days, except with his balls.

--Gabe Delahaye and Max Silvestri screened this (with v/o from Jenny Slate):

--To close the show, Stephen C. Baldwin gave a PowerPoint presentation, explaining why there are parrots in Brooklyn: a shipment from South America accidentally released them in the 1960's apparently. Stephen and his band, The Meetles, then played Beatles tunes while the crowd helped themselves to free red-velvet cakes dusted with pictures of Stephen Baldwin (the actor) on them, courtesy of Community Baking Co.

--The evening pulled in around $500 for Brooklyn Parrots, Stephen's parrot rescue charity.
