Comedy Village To Cease Existing

The Comedy Village on West 3rd is closing this weekend. Dave Chappelle was there Saturday night for a half-marathon apparently. The following is a memo we received concerning the venue's imminent closure:

*The Last Hurrah...* *The **Comedy** **Village** Closes May 10th *

It's Big Red, PJ Landers from the ComedyVillage. I wanted to share some news regarding the club. Our building has been sold and we are going to move. For the past 25 years our spot has been a comedy club. We've been running the ComedyVillage for the past 3 years, before that, the Great Boston Comedy Club and before that the Paper Moon. Although the Comedy Village will be continuing, this stage will cease to exist. It is truly a sad day. for all of us and the thousands of fans we've had the pleasure of serving up the gift of laughter for over 25 years. *Thank you...*

As our way of thanking all of you who came week after week and made it a great night of comedy. You guys made the Comedy Village a home for New York's hottest Comics.

*The History ...* Of the ComedyVillage, and its location began for me when I started my comedy career in this very same building which was called the Boston Comedy Club. I remember my first show, hosted by Keith Robinson. I barely had 5 minutes. I got to stay to watch the 10pm show. I was blown away. I realized that I had to do this. After months of banging around trying to get some stage time, I started to Host the 10pm and 12am shows These shows were amazing. I was bringing up guys who were starting to re-define comedy....guys like Dave Attel, Greer Barnes, Godfrey, Red Johnny & the Round Guy, Jay Mohr, Jim Breuer, Tony Woods, Jim Norton, Dane Cook, Rich Vos and not to mention what's his name...DAVE CHAPPELLE...it was truly a wonderful time.

*In 2005,* The Boston Comedy Club closed. They were going to make the room into another music venue. We asked the owner of the Baggot Inn to give us a few months to run the comedy club. He agreed and the ComedyVillage was born. We've had all the hottest comics on our Stage. Dave Chappelle and Chevy Chase dropped by last weekend. Dave Attel, Jim Norton, Kevin Brennan, Bill Burr, Godfrey, Peter Correale, Rich Vos would always stop by. We had the new breed of Hot Comics starting to make the scene. Guys like Mike DeStefano and Rick Shapiro. We had guys that landed their first TV gigs. Guys like Mark Demayo and Joey Gay.

We've had Dave Chappelle, Judah Friedlander and Greer Barnes call the ComedyVillage their home Club.

Our last day is May 10th. With days remaining. We're going out with a BANG..and you're invited

We will be doing 3 shows 8pm 10pm and 12am. *COME BY AND SAY GOODBYE *

We will be back short*

Let's just say we're going on hiatus

Good Luck!

That sucks. I remember seeing some great shows there back in the days when my buddy Sauce was hosting. It was weird being like "whatup Sauce", "whatup soce".. for real though he's super talented.

And I saw Todd Lynn perform there a week or so before he got kicked off the Hot 97 morning show. Say what you want about him, but he was an amazing man who knew how to work the room.

It's a shame. Would make a fine Gentlemen's Club.

Sorry to hear it's closing but it couldn't happen to a better guy than this Big Red dude. Not a good guy.
