Politics as Usual

--It's no John Kerry endorsement (sarcasm?), but prominent members of the NY comedy community like Todd Barry, Eugene Mirman, the Variety SHAC, and Greg Johnson have united to stand behind/downwind of Barack Obama in this next election. The Get Out the Laughs and Votes Fundraiser for Obama next Tuesday at Knitting Factory promises to stuff Obama's coffers with funny money. We asked the event's organizer, Shonali Bhowmik why she hates dear Hillary Clinton and she responded, "I was drinking the Clinton kool aid not so long ago. Now I really believe we could elect someone with integrity and intelligence and it is beyond exciting!" Is Shonali just doing this for a shot at a Cabinet position?
--We didn't get the TMZ alert about this last year, but Al Franken is running for Senator of Minnesota. A fate-deciding caucus is coming up for him on February 5th.
--Sara Benincasa is also srsly jazzed about politics with her relatively new gig at MTV running alongside the Choose Or Lose charter bus.
--Ben Kharakh recently chatted with Adam McKay about all sorts of things.
--2 SOON: While attending trivia night at Pete's Candy Store in Williamsburg yesterday, we noted that it's never too soon to have an ironic team name which references THE UNTIMELY DEMISE OF KEITH LEDGER. Thornily nestled amongst twenty or so wholesome team names like "Daniel Day Ludacriss" and "Vermont Raple Syrup" were names such as "The Dark Knight Viral Marketing Has Gone Too Far," "I Just Can't Quit You, Ambien," and "10 Things I Hate About Life."
--But speaking of THE CITY THAT NEVER STOPS LOLING (Williamsburg), Max Silvestri--who is allegedly getting over an icky cold--is taking his goods to SoundFix TONIGHT AND FOREVER. "I Like Attention" is the latest Rififi show to relocate to Brooklyn. Will there be moar?
--RE: FIFI: We've heard that the question mark can probably be removed from Rififi to Close (?).

I for the record am not with these Obama loving hippie douchebags (not that any of those talented comedians are douchebags, not sarcastically talented, for reals talented, it's just WTF) and I am majorly with Hillary. She is also, for the record, a candidate with integrity and intelligence. But it seems it's 'cool' to support Obama. Can somebody give me a real reason to get behind the guy besides the fact that the cool people are doing it?

All the REALLY cool people are supporting Kucinich.

And by "cool," I mean, "baked."

"Can somebody give me a real reason to get behind the guy besides the fact that the cool people are doing it?"

How about the fact that he's the only Democratic frontrunner who was opposed to the war in Iraq from the get-go -- something that took real integrity and intelligence. How about giving some examples of Hillary's integrity?

I've liked Obama for a while now. He gave me that tingly feeling in my hair when I saw him speak a few months ago--he's an electrifying public speaker. It's pretty similar to the feeling one gets while watching this YouTube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLF9iEXnBRo

Obama's platform is not much different than HillClint really; for voters, it all comes down to charisma and character.

Whatever, Mitt Romney is funnier.

"Who let the dogs out, woof woof"

There's a new sherrif in town, Sarah Silverman.

Ricky Schroder, et al., wears sacred Mormon undergarments with "Mitt Fits in '08" emblazoned on them.
