The Gag Reel
By: Mo Diggs
The week's most pressing TV & film news.
LUCKY STRIKE?: Could a deal between producers and writers see daylight before Christmas? The word "optimistic" has been tossed around in a number of recent articles being churned out. Expect only gossip during the press blackout.
If a deal comes to fruition, thank cyberspace.
"When the WGA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers announced plans to resume talks today, one factor that apparently contributed to the detente was the fear among some studios that the blogs and videos were effectively casting them as villains." -- LA Times
Perversely, there is no online work more scathing than Fred Armisen's "Weekend Update" sketch in which he plays heartless studio head Roger A. Trevanti.
Until the strike is over, watch three more new episodes of 30 Rock and nine more new episodes of The Simpsons, as well as full seasons of Tim and Eric along with THE BEST NEW ADULT SWIM SHOW, Xavier: Renegade Angel.
APATOW TAKE A BOW: The Apatow gang was honored by EW as an Entertainer of the Year. Hate on them now, but the two most exciting comedies this holiday season are Juno (with Michael Cera, from said gang) and Walk Hard (produced by Apatow).
ALSO HONORED:
Will Ferrell and Adam McKay
The Simpsons
Tina Fey
But let's bring it back inside with some superbad penis cartoons from an original Apatow gangster (NSFW)
DVD PICK: The new Futurama DVD Bender's Big Score. You don't need to be a math whiz to appreciate it but it couldn't hurt.
