Is Someone Out to Get Rififi?
Is there some kind of disinformation or smear campaign underway against Rififi? We overheard someone last week saying that Rififi is letting its liquor license expire on the 31st. Since shows are still being scheduled as normal and no one seems too concerned by the rumors, we didn't think much about it until yesterday. We got an alarming email which included a link to an old Brooklyn Vegan post that has fresh and very specific comments alleging the venue's demise is nigh. Huh?
Let it be known that anyone who comments on a post that is months old is either crazy or has a personal connection. Where are these facts in the BV comments page coming from? We looked up Rififi/Cinema Classics at the NY State Liquor Authority's site and though it says the license does expire on the 31st, there was no information on that page or in any of the published SLA media alerts suggesting that the venue was in trouble. Guess we'll find out for sure what happens on November 1st, but in the meantime someone should sniff out the fiend who's starting these rumors. Our guess is it's probably a hostile neighbor or someone with an agenda. Maybe someone's trying to manipulate the listing price or nearby property values--who knows.
