Video Writers' Room

Someone had written in recently saying:

I've submitted the same video for the past three weeks from my group for New Video Wednesday. I guess I'm just curious as to why it hasn't been put up yet, or why we haven't at least gotten some kind of fed up response after bugging you three weeks in a row. Is it that you just don't like the sketch?

We actually like giving feedback here for this sort of thing because we feel constructive criticism is an important part of the writing process. We explained our thoughts on the sketch's weaknesses and the person wrote back with a counterstatement. We then forwarded both arguments onto an associate for his thoughts. His response yielded insights that went far beyond the casual "hahahahaha" and "I liked it!" that one might get from YouTube commenters. It was actually really interesting to think critically for once. We think this could be the basis for a new column.

If you have any interest in submitting a video specifically for a public discussion on its strengths and weaknesses and/or thoughts on how to improve the game of the scene, send it to theapiary@gmail.com with Video Writers' Room in the subject line. We try to run a fairly positive ship here at The Apiary; we're not into tearing anyone down for the sake of sounding cool. Hopefully, this could be a neat exercise in peer evaluation and constructive criticism.

Nate, this is actually a really, really good idea. I think you should move forward with it.
