Tim Minchin to Make NYC Debut

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usAspen SHOWSTOPPER Tim Minchin is finally making his New York City debut. Our emotions turned from fleeting awe to bitter jealousy after reading an Aspen Comedy Festival recap last winter in Metro, THE PAPER OF RECORD FOR DISTINGUISHED STRAPHANGERS, which raved:

The performer who hands down stole the entire festival was singer/songwriter Tim Minchin. Although one hates to bestow him the somewhat David Hasselhoff-ian put down--"He's huge... in Australia"--it's true. With his eyeliner, coattails and crazy hair he resembles a piano-playing Robert Smith. And he will be the next big thing in the U.S. His final song, "Taking Canvas Bags to the Supermarket," united the fur-drenched Aspenite and cynical comic alike. And the jury agreed: He won for best alternative performance. If he doesn't have an HBO special within weeks, there is no justice. A comedian for the Jury Award-winning Best Sketch Troupe, Summer of Tears, says of Minchin's show: "He makes me want to go home and never do comedy again, because there is no way you can compete with that."
