Ochi's Lounge to Pick Up Where Mo's Leaves Off, Like the Day After
Due to the rapid triage by Kambri Crews last week, the proposed space below Comix has quickly become a full-fledged recovery center for Mo Pitkins castaways and a couple other area showcases. Per the latest Ballyhoo newsletter:
"OCHI'S LOUNGE GRAND OPENING WEEK!
Ochi's Lounge is the next level of Comix. Say goodbye to smelly co-ed bathrooms, bad service and run-down, musty venues that are the standard alternative comedy experience. Everything you love about independent shows produced by some of the MVPs of the comedy scene is now in a comfortable lounge with a dedicated staff serving delicious food and beverages that won't break your bank account. With a liquor license, clean spacious bathrooms and no rodents dropping by for unexpected guest spots, Ochi's Lounge is sure to change the way you think about underground comedy.
There is no cover charge and a one item minimum purchase for every performance.
EVERY WEEK AT OCHI'S LOUNGE:
MON @ 8:00 - THE LIAR SHOW or THE BILLY CLUB
TUE @ 8:00 - CHICKS & GIGGLES
WED @ 8:00 - MAX
THU @ 8:00 PM - SMILETIME WITH SEAN & SHAWN
FRI @ 7:00 PM - FAMILY HOUR WITH AUNTIE SARA

Meanwhile, Mo Pitkins continues along its death march: the final hurrah for Mo's is Sunday, October 21st.

"A recovery center for Mo's castaways???" Why would Comix (or anyone) want to emulate the going out of business Mo's??? That's insane!
N.B. Mo Pitkins FAILED and they relied heavily on putting on most of these same shows, putting on 29 shows a week, and putting on shows in rooms that are not intended for performances. And now Comix is setting out to do most of the same?
Is there a stage in this new space??? Let's get it right so people in New York are going to comedy shows they actually enjoy. And not just 1 out of 4 comedy shows they actually enjoy.

"Say goodbye to smelly co-ed bathrooms, bad service and run-down, musty venues that are the standard alternative comedy experience."
Say hello to the overpriced Chelsea coke-bar retreat experience! With "hosts" that hover over you if you don't order like hawks, and "bouncers" who swoop down on every table to make sure nobody is ducking out on their $9 beer bill.
Mo's was not as bad a place as people are making it out to be and it will be missed. Nobody takes Comix seriously. Never thought there could be a more impersonal space than Caroline's though. And here it is! Heck, my apologies for mixing Caroline's in there because at least they have taste, a voice and a persona; Comix is... Not exactly awesome.
So any bets on how many months/years before Comix turns into a full-fledged Chelsea club that forgoes the comedy moniker?

I think Jack and lady anon need a hug! Yes, there's a stage! Look, it's gonna be the shiznit! There's no cover and a 1 item minimum in a clean state-of-the art room. If nothing else come down and check out the inexpensive menu to get your din din on and munch away every other monday as you check out the top comics I put on my show, "The Billy Club". Kambri's doing a great thing here in MEPA (not Chelsea).

Hey, you can't please everyone, but Ochi's is shaping up nicely. The menu is very affordable, damn tasty and the beer cheap. It's a nice little lounge that will be better served by giving comedians some stage time instead of collecting dust.
