Brett Gelman's 1,000 Cats, The Musical Event of Our Generation

Brett Gelman is scheduled to perform his one man musical opus, 1,000 Cats, in its entirety at the 10/29 edition of Totally J/K. In it, Brett imagines the lives of 1,000 precious cats--no cue cards, no teleprompter, just a streaming onslaught of mewing kitties one after another. Imagine the emotional wallop of Les Miz (or Cats, if you will) but with Gelman purring his way around the stage in a style that would cause even the most gifted high-school musical theatre queer to lower his or her uplifted drama arm forever. In early July, we saw Brett stage a shortened version, Cats 1-100--we laughed so much, we nearly filled a litter box with poop. The full length is 30 minutes long.

Joe Mande writes at AST, "It may even be, perhaps, God forbid, the last time anyone will be able to see "1000 Cats" in New York for a very, very long time."

Why? We hear that a gig awaits Gelman in LA and a move is being strongly considered.
