Notable Mentions

--The comedy stars ran wild Friday for Liam McEneaney's birthday party last weekend. Who was SPOTTED? Todd Levin, Amanda Melson, Bob Powers, John F. O'Donnell, Giulia Rozzi, Nick Turner and OTHERS.
--Margot Leitman broke a foot. Fear not alcohol lovers, the injury appears to have little impact on her beverage dispensing abilities behind the UCBT bar. Get well soon.
--Fearsome's Shayna Ferm has assembled a back up band, The Upper Deckers, in preparation for a CD recording next month. Dunno what upper decker means where Shayna comes from, but we seem to recall it having something to do with defecating where one probably shouldn't.
--The Seattle Sketchfest line-up was leaked the other day. NY troops making the trip to the emerald city: Drop Six, A Week of Kindness, and Party Central USA.
--Dan Ahdoot is allegedly on the lookout for new management.
--It seems like the pressure at Rififi to produce runaway hit shows is keeping hosts on edge to fill the house or face the axe. Is that showbiz? Or is something else going on there?
--The dog days of summer are here and the demand for sandwiches is at an all time high. It's no wonder that Jon Friedman is bringing back The Delicious Sandwich Social for another go on August 18th. The DSS apparently spawned a brief craze in Australia.
--Sadly, the lights at the publishing factory will shut down forever for the print edition of the Weekly World News. Today is the last day of work for the staff at The World's Only Reliable Newspaper. Though Bob Greenberg, the managing editor of WWN, talks about the closure a little bit on his blog here and here, there needs to be a full-on profile or introspective. See what the nation's leading systems analysts are saying about the matter.
--What FEATURE FILM opening this weekend has Nathan Rabin of The Onion howling: "Technically a movie!", "Beneath the dignity of even Paula Abdul!", "Worthless!", and a "Pandering piece of commerce!" After attending a press screening, he writes:

I couldn't help but notice the surreal incongruity of pasty-faced men in their forties, fifties and sixties casting unstinting judgment on a movie aimed unmistakably, if not exclusively, at fashion-conscious ten-year-old girls. Even Roger Ebert was there.

I can't help but notice that Nathan Rabin himself is pasty-faced, bald, 30+ year old writer who himself is reviewing a film for kids and fits into the exact stereotype he's mocking. Pot calling kettle black? Indeed.
