Inflation Hits Pocketbooks of New York City Comedy Goers

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usBrooklyn Vegan pointed out over the weekend that Comix is instituting a 2-item minimum for all its shows beginning February 1st. More details here.

Hot on the heels of this announcement is the news that all comedy shows at Rififi are at least FIVE DOLLARS. Some were free before. Now you gotta pay. 5 bucks ain't so bad, but 5 leads to 10, then 10 leads to 50, then before you know it, it's the year 2120 and we're shelling out 1000 Rupees to watch retro Uber-Def Eugene Mirman videos, getting hammered by inhaling cans of neo-beer, while soaking in one of Rififi's sensation simulator pod pools. We'll all be wearing Wavitrol caps too.

There's still lots of FREE comedy out there for the cheapies--The Onion has a great listings section.

In other news UCB Theatre still has the cheapest drinks in town. $2 PBR, $3 Bud and Bud Light, $4 Amstell and Heineken (for all you ballers).

All Friday Midnight shows, the 9:30pm ASSSSCAT, School Night Wed 11pm, and Crash Test are all always FREE.

What's wrong with paying comedians for performing at a comedy show?

If you want a free show, stay home and watch TV. Or come to the Lolita Bar.

"If you want a free show, stay home and watch TV. Or come to the Lolita Bar."

Or ... go to the UCB Theater.

Nothing wrong with getting paid.

I have no trouble with paying, as long as the comics actually see the money.

Psych, I don't want to pay.

I have no trouble with paying, as long as the comics actually see the money. Or, rather, I have no trouble with paying small amounts, as long as the comics actually see the money.

My cable bill is $40 a month... not exactly free my friend... unless you live with your parents... or use bunny ears.

I'll leave that there.
