Everyone is Raving About Will Franken!
Readers are spastically twirling glowing sticks, rolling like frothy mouthed ravers over San Francisco based comic Will Franken's arrival to New York City. Let's hear what they have to say:
Just wanted to make sure you know that Will Franken, who was named by the SF Weekly best comedian in San Francisco, and "Best alternative to psychedelic drugs" by the SF Bay Guardian, is going to be performing around New York the next couple weeks. Wednesday he's at Invite Them Up, there are a couple other showcase appearances, and then he's doing two different solo shows, Thursday Sept 21 at Mo Pitkin's, and Thursday Sept 28 at Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. Will has a unique style where he creates a variety of characters, and surreally segues between the bits. He's kind of like a one-man Kids in the Hall. I'm not a publicist, just really enthusiastic!
And...
Will Franken's comedy is not to be missed. Like a one-man Mr. Show, his stream-of-consciousness string of characters flow seamlessly together, forming a broad performance piece that transcends the idea of "stand-up comedy", and would be more adequately described as "genius performance art that will make you laugh your ass off". Ridiculously talented as both a writer and performer, and with the rare ability to be simultaneously smart and funny, Will forces his audience - and his fellow comedians - to re-think what comedy is actually capable of accomplishing. Am I understating the fact that the guy is unbelievably hilarious and that you'd be a fool to miss your chance to see him? I hope not.
Those of you waiting for a one-man Watching Ellie or a one-man Everybody Loves Raymond to breeze into town, keep praying.

Will is great. Totally unique and very funny.
Also, he was on The Sound of Young America a couple months ago. He even performed a few bits.

It's fairer to say that it's not so much that Gothamist interviewed Will, but Ben Kharakh did.
