Bits of Honey
--A bogus and poorly fact-checked article in the New York Post Tuesday regarding the cast changes at SNL has turned into a full blown media frenzy, with various news outlets all confirming TOTALLY DIFFERING SCOOPS. Eat The Press finally starts wondering who the heck are all these LEAKY SNL INSIDERS? Let's face it, do you really think Lorne Michaels is going to go to The Post with exclusive information after The Post called for SNL's cancellation last year?
--MEAT has made it to the semifinal round of the New York TV Festival Pitch Contest. The winner of the contest will receive 8 THOUSAND DOLLARS good towards making their pitch a reality. In order to win, they need your vote TODAY!
--The Assimilated Negro is DH-ing at Gawker this week.
--God's Pottery was just nominated for Best Newcomer at the prestigious Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
--TO DO THIS WEEKEND: The Delicious Sandwich Social & Neil Hamburger. A full set by Mr. Hamburger is one of the funnest things you'll see all year. A lazy day in Prospect Park socializing with sandwiches should make for a good time too.

--If it feels like the site is being phoned in this week or your emails are not being answered in a timely manner, you're probably right. The Apiary staff is sort of on vacation.
--A day in the life of Caroline Hirsch, of Caroline's Comedy Club. Actual question asked: "Without you, would Jay Leno be hosting the ‘Tonight Show’?" Man, we could really go for a time machine right now...
--Anything else going on out there?
--Matt Sklar wrote in with a nice recap of 826 NYC's star-studded fundraiser last night, Revenge of the Book Eaters. Read all about it after the jump. He also snagged some info on upcoming Jon Hodgman appearances.
In keeping with the theme of 'Words v. Music, John Hodgman hosted the evening along with musical partner Jonathan Coulton, who sang a theme song for each of the non-musician's performances. After a few jabs at Mel Gibson, Jon Stewart read excerpts from the Paperback edition of 'America: The Book', with Daily Show writer Ben Karlin providing historical expert corrections, which will appear as sidenotes in the new ed.
John Roderick of The Long Winters performed 3 lovely songs which were slightly overshadowed by his own onstage banter. Forget John Mayer, someone get this guy a set at Carolines.
Sarah Vowell's brought out playwright/novelist/actor Eric Bogosian to help with her essay reading.
Despite being billed as doing solo sets, both Sufjan Stevens and David Byrne came onstage with full bands; Byrne played a mostly country western set, while Sufjan's songs were culled mostly from his acclaimed album, Come on Feel the Illinoise! (Jacksonville, Chicago, Casimir Pulaski Day). Watch as they perform a duet of 'Saginaw, Michigan' at the end of Byrne's set.
What wasn't cool about the evening: the show started at exactly 8pm, despite the fact that there was still a long line of people waiting to get into the theater at the time.
And related: John Hodgman will be the next guest on UCB's Inside Joke on Sept. 13th, and is going on another book tour. Dates Here
