Busted Rumor: Viacom Moments Away From Buying Out The Onion

The Huffington Post is MAKING UP A RUMOR TODAY that The Onion is edging towards a buyout deal with Viacom. It sounded way fishy since there was no accompanying explanation or details or anything at all. The Apiary asked an INSIDE SOURCE at The Onion for comment on this bold allegation:

Not true

Just saw it, just panicked, just found out from higher-ups that it is untrue.

"All rumor" is what I was told.

If it later turns out to be true, I will feel foolish, but for now, I am confident that it is not.

Sorry Huffington Post, this rumor is BUSTED. Probably.

The Onion keeps its internal dealings close to the chest, but its a well known secret that The Onion has wanted to sell itself for years. Whoever that internal contact you have is is either in denial or completely out of the loop.
